The global 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign has entered its second week, and across Belize, both government agencies and civil society organizations are intensifying efforts to shine a spotlight on what the United Nations has described as a “shadow pandemic”, the widespread and persistent crisis of gender-based violence. This morning in the Toledo District, community members gathered early to participate in a walk in Punta Gorda. We join Correspondent Paul Mahung for that story.
The 16-day observance will culminate on Human Rights Day, December 10, emphasizing that freedom from gender-based violence is not only a social responsibility but a fundamental human right.
