Belize and Guatemala Strengthen Cooperation Following High-Level Meeting in Petén

Efforts to strengthen cross-border cooperation between Belize and Guatemala continue to gain momentum following a high-level meeting in Petén.  According to Guatemalan authorities, the Governor of Petén recently received a courtesy visit from Belize’s Ambassador to Guatemala, José Alpuche. The meeting reportedly featured what officials described as an open and constructive dialogue focused on advancing cooperation between the neighboring territories.  Key areas discussed included agriculture, trade, tourism, border relations, and environmental conservation, sectors both sides view as critical to driving economic development and improving the wellbeing of communities on both sides of the border.  Officials in Petén say the engagement underscores a shared commitment to maintaining ongoing dialogue grounded in mutual respect and practical collaboration on matters of common interest.  The meeting forms part of broader diplomatic efforts to deepen bilateral ties and promote sustainable development initiatives benefiting Belize and Guatemala, particularly in border regions closely linked to the Petén department.
