Belize and Zambia Sign Agreement to Deepen Cooperation

Belize and Zambia have signed a joint communiqué to expand cooperation in tourism, trade and investment, agriculture, environmental conservation and climate change. Zambia’s Foreign Affairs Minister Mulambo Haimbe and Belize’s Ambassador Oscar Arnold signed the agreement on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.  The agreement gives the two countries a framework to share expertise and explore opportunities in sectors important to both economies. Tourism is one area of common interest: Belize and Zambia both rely on natural attractions and have an interest in protecting them while developing the industry. The communiqué does not announce a specific tourism project, new flight route or change to travel rules. Those would require further discussions. Belize and Zambia had already expressed interest in deepening their ties earlier this year, including cooperation on climate issues and Commonwealth affairs.
