Belize Bank Affected by System Glitch

An indefinite number of Belize Bank consumers are being affected by a flawed system upgrade that took place over the weekend.  For the past five days many have been unable to access their accounts via mobile devices, and bill payments are being delayed. Our newsroom reached out to the bank for comment but up to news time this evening that had not happened.  We went on their website and social media platforms to see if there is an update to the situation, but none was reported.  Last week, the Belize Bank issued an alert that the online banking would be down from Thursday, July 31 at 10pm until Sunday at 7pm.  The Sunday deadline was extended to 5am Monday morning.  At 10am Monday morning, a message was sent out saying the mobile digital services had been restored.  It seems, however, that this was only for a percentage of customers.  For others, logging in has been impossible as it keeps indicating an expired session.  The denied access to bank accounts has been compounded by the inability to reach the bank’s offices to make any queries.  One customer went into the bank and was told that the new system upgrade has a bug that they are currently working on fixing.  We will keep reaching out to Belize Bank for an update on the situation, and report accordingly.
