During this Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Belize Cancer Society is using the opportunity to remind Belizeans that everyone has a role to play in the fight against cancer. Throughout the month, the Society will be hosting a number of events aimed at raising awareness and generating funds to continue assisting cancer patients across the country. Treasurer of the Belize Cancer Society, Marsha Escarpeta says the organisation hopes this year’s activities will encourage more Belizeans to become involved while highlighting the importance of regular screenings.
The Cancer Society says every event held during the month helps provide assistance to individuals and families affected by cancer. Proceeds from fundraising activities contribute toward patient support services, while educational events encourage people to recognise the warning signs of breast cancer and seek medical attention as early as possible. Escarpeta says support doesn’t always have to come in the form of a financial donation. Simply participating in an event, volunteering, purchasing awareness merchandise, or encouraging someone to get screened can make a meaningful difference.
The Belize Cancer Society is encouraging citizens to wear pink throughout October, attend the month’s scheduled activities, and share information about breast cancer within their communities.
