Belize City Businessman Remanded After Teens Allege He Fired at Them

A Belize City businessman has been remanded to prison after two teenagers accused him of firing a shot at them on Police Street.  Twenty-eight-year-old Mark Anthony Ryan Swift appeared before the Chief Magistrate yesterday.  He pleaded not guilty to aggravated assault, keeping an unlicensed firearm and keeping ammunition without a gun licence. Bail was denied, and he was remanded until November 13. Police say officers on patrol early Saturday morning met two boys, ages 15 and 16, running along Police Street. The boys told officers that a man they knew as Swift had fired at them. They went with police and pointed him out near LaCroix Boulevard.  According to the police account, officers then found a revolver in a dry drain nearby. It reportedly contained five live rounds and one spent casing. Neither teenager was reported injured. Swift has denied the charges.
