Standing water on some Belize City streets following the recent heavy rains has brought attention to drainage and the functionality of the Yabra Pump Station. The Belize City Council says its crews checked drains and waterways during the wet weather, and with no immediate cause for concern and said the pump station was ready if needed. Assistant City Engineer Ramon Menjivar explained the station’s role during flooding.
Menjivar attributed the standing water in some neighbourhoods to a large amount of rain falling over a short period. He said the station is not switched on every time it rains, but provides additional support when conditions become more serious.
