Levi Levi, a 47-YEAR-OLD Belizean entrepreneur is claiming unfair treatment at the hands of the Belize Police Department. He claims that after making several reports to the Queen Street police station, he was treated unfairly and felt as if his concerns weren’t being taken seriously. Levi came to LOVE Studios to register his displeasure with the police.

Levi Levi, Complainant: “First of all, they are not, what’s the word? They are prejudice. For instance, you would hear a comment that, it’s a sin to make a report against your Father. Apparently my life, doesn’t mean anything to my Father and the Police Department so really and truly I would want to speak to the Minister of Police to see how we can sort it out. I even went to the Police to see if they can do intervention, because you watch the news and you see them do these things with gang members . They can’t do that, they don’t want to follow up, they can’t find a man that lives three lanes from the police station. And as I walk out of the Police station, I see the man, but the police can’t find him with all the resources. So to me, and the play ping-pong with my life. It has gotten to the stage where my back is against the wall, and you don’t know how much more a man could take. Then my brother is to my Dad and then my Mom’s friend’s son so it’s like open season on my life. And really and truly, the law does not allow any opportunity for me that have gotten threatened to defend myself. I have to depend on the Police, the police are not taking it serious and playing ping pong. I don’t understand. So they are waiting for me to lose my life. Then they will call a press conference and offer condolences then what will happen to my son.”
Levi is frustrated and resigned from dealing with the officers. He has decided to make a plea for the Police Minister, Kareem Musa, to intervene on his behalf.
Levi Levi, Complainant : “Minister of Police, Mr. Musa, please, please, I don’t know who in charge because it’s a lot of go and come back. No much police officer could substantiate. The police officer even told me I cannot stay on the compound. I have to come off the compound. I am a tax payer too. How I go to the police station and that is a haven and then I have to stay on the street and wait for the police whom I am looking for to get an update. I have to wait for them to come back but I have to stay on the street. Am I not a Belizean then? So I would really want the Minister of Police to look into this because it looks like this gender based violence thing only applies to women and men mean nothing.”
The allegations come at a time when police moral is at a low point given their alleged involvement in the alleged kidnapping of Joseph Ryan Budna and the many unsolved murders in the country.
