Belize City Family Mourns Christopher Smith Jr. After Fatal Shooting

A Belize City family is grieving the murder of Christopher Smith Junior, whose body was discovered in a yard on Arlington Drive yesterday morning.  Police say officers responded to the area shortly after seven o’clock and found Smith lying motionless on his back. He had apparent gunshot wounds to the left side of his head and left shoulder. Residents reportedly heard several gunshots shortly after one o’clock that morning, but Smith’s body was not discovered until approximately six hours later.  Four expended nine-millimetre shell casings were recovered from the scene. Smith was formally identified by his father, Police Officer Christopher Smith Senior. Love News spoke with Smith’s paternal grandmother about how the family is coping.

Grandmother: “Well I wasn’t at home you know so when I heard it was way in yesterday evening when I came home. He was a loving grandson, always hugging, always telling me how much he loved me. That I can say. That I will keep here forever. Always saying “Granny you’re alright ?”, “Granny you need anything done ?

That’s my grandson. Nothing as yet. I was just at home I have other grandkids to tend about so I’m just here waiting and learning what’s happening. I’ll leave everything in God’s hands. God sees everything. I’ll leave it to God. Just that I have to say.”

Smith had previously been charged alongside Karl Lindo and Ronald Fraser in connection with the November 2024 murders of cousins Marvin Cante and Juan Carlos Raymundo. Their bodies were found buried in a shallow grave near Dalla Bank Road, in the American New Site area of Hattieville Village. However, the charges against Smith were withdrawn in November 2025 following instructions from the Office of the Director of Public   prosecutions.   Assistant Superintendent of Police Stacy Smith addressed the latest murder during today’s police briefing.

ASP Stacy Smith, Belize Police Department: “Police are investigating the murder of 23 year old Christopher Smith which is believed to have happened during the early morning hours of 23 August, 2026 on Arlington Drive in Belize City. At approximately 7am police control room was advised that the body of Smith was dissevered in a yard on Arlington Drive Belize City. The investigators responded where they observed the unresponsive body of Smith which exhibited apparent gun shot injuries and they were also able to observe several expended casings on the scene. It is believed that Smith was shot at around 1:20 am as there were reports of shots being fired in that vicinity however the responding officers were not able to establish a scene at the time. The department has since retrieved footage from the Crime Fusions Center which has provided leads and those leads are currently being pursued by the investigators.”

Police have not disclosed a possible motive for Smith’s murder.
