Belize City IT Technician Remanded Over Alleged Vehicle Assault

A Belize City IT technician has been remanded to the Belize Central Prison following allegations that he used a vehicle to assault two people in the parking lot of the Belize City Magistrate’s Court.  27-year-old Jahshield Tyrique Myles, a resident of Tibruce Street, appeared in court with his attorney, Leeroy Banner.  The charges arise from an incident allegedly occurring on September 28 at the court’s parking lot on Coney Drive. Police allege that Myles used a motor vehicle as a dangerous instrument with the intention of causing harm to Stephen Staine. He was charged with use of deadly means of harm. He also faces charges of grievous harm and wounding involving Ashanti Lopez; all to which he pleaded not guilty.  The prosecution objected to bail, citing the nature of the alleged offences and the fact that the incident reportedly happened outside the court building.  Banner argued that the accusations remain allegations and that his client is presumed innocent. He told the court that Myles is the sole provider for his child and could lose his employment, customers and livelihood if remanded. Banner also argued that the court should consider whether Myles poses a flight risk, adding that police would have to prove he intended to cause harm.  After briefly standing down the matter, the magistrate denied bail and remanded Myles to the Belize Central Prison.
