A Belize City man has been formally arrested and charged with damage to property after allegedly destroying police surveillance equipment. Nineteen-year-old Kyle Arana, a fisherman of Oleander Street, was taken into custody today following a police investigation. The incident was first reported yesterday by a corporal attached to the Public Safety Monitoring Unit. While conducting a routine check of police cameras, the officer found that a bullet camera in the Lake Independence area had been tampered with. Upon reviewing the camera’s footage, he observed a male individual climbing the camera pole on Saturday night at around eleven o’clock. The suspect was seen using an object resembling a hammer to hit the camera, causing it to face downwards. The individual was identified by a large tattoo of the name “Natalie Adolphus” on his chest and another tattoo on his left forearm. A physical inspection of the site revealed that a 4K Bullet Camera and an emergency bell with video and voice capabilities were damaged. The total value of the damaged government property is estimated at $2,040. Based on the footage and a subsequent investigation, police arrested Arana. He was formally charged with “Damage to Property” and remanded into police custody.
