Police in Belize City are investigating a late-night shooting that has left a young man hospitalized, in what authorities are treating as a case of attempted murder. Reports are that shortly before ten o’clock last night, police received information of a shooting incident at the Bingo King Apartments located on Faber’s Road Extension in Belize City. Acting on the report, personnel from the Criminal Investigation Branch, Precinct Two, visited the Accident and Emergency Section of the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, where they encountered 23-year-old Kaylen Thompson, a Belizean construction worker, with apparent gunshot injuries to the body. Initial investigations revealed that around nine forty-five that night, Thompson and his common-law wife, 29-year-old Andra Diaz, were inside their room with the door closed when an unknown person fired several shots through the door, striking Thompson. After the shooting, the assailant reportedly fled the area in an unknown direction. Police say the motive for the attack remains unknown as investigations continue. Authorities are asking anyone with information that could assist in the investigation to contact the nearest police station.
