Belize City Man Remanded After Alleged Knife Attack on Brother

A family dispute in Belize City has left one brother injured and another on remand at the Belize Central Prison.  Nineteen-year-old construction worker Brenton Conrad Archer was arraigned in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on a charge of aggravated assault with a dangerous instrument. He is accused of attacking his older brother, twenty-two-year-old Joshua Lamb, with a knife.  Archer, who was unrepresented, pleaded not guilty to the charge.  The police prosecutor did not object to bail. However, the Magistrate expressed concern that the brothers may live in the same yard or near each other and that releasing Archer without confirming their living arrangements could lead to another confrontation.  Archer told the court that his brother does not live in the same yard. The Magistrate nevertheless decided to withhold bail until the prosecutor can confirm the distance between their homes and determine whether suitable conditions can be imposed.  Archer, who also appeared to have injuries to his eye and right hand, was remanded to the Belize Central Prison. He is scheduled to return to court on September 2.  According to police, the incident occurred at a home on Iguana Street on Friday, August 21. Investigators say the brothers became involved in an altercation that escalated into a fight.  Lamb was later found at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital with cuts near his mouth and stab wounds to his left eye and cheek. Police allege that Archer inflicted the injuries during the confrontation.
