Belize City has taken its voice on youth-led sustainability to the international stage, with representation at the 2026 Global Youth Trends Forum held in Taipei, Taiwan, from January 2 to 4. The Belize City Council was represented by Programs Manager Micheal Fritz, who joined delegates from the Ministry of Tourism, Youth, Sports and Diaspora Relations at the forum, which was held under the theme “Powering Sustainability: Youth & Green Collar Action.” The three-day engagement combined a conference and study tour, beginning with ecological visits to natural springs, museums, and a waste recycling facility in Taiwan. This was followed by two days of roundtable discussions, team-based collaboration, and conference sessions focused on climate action, green jobs, and youth leadership in sustainable development. Participants explored practical approaches to empowering young people to advocate for and implement environmentally responsible solutions, with organizers emphasizing that youth engagement is central to long-term global sustainability efforts. The Belize City Council expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Tourism, Youth, Sports and Diaspora Relations, as well as the Youth Development Administration under Taiwan’s Ministry of Education, for facilitating Belize’s participation and inclusion in the forum. City officials say Belize City’s presence at the forum underscores its continued commitment to youth empowerment and environmental stewardship, while strengthening international partnerships and ensuring that local perspectives contribute to global sustainability conversations.
