Belize City’s E-Bus Project Delivers Major Profits, Says Mayor Wagner

Public Transportation investments are projected to be one of the most lucrative assets to the Belize City Council, says Mayor Bernard Wagner. In an interview today – Wagner passionately delved into the details of the profits seen from the Electronic Bus runs, that first launched back on July 19, 2024. The modern public transport has since seen a fair amount of financial success. Mayor Wagner shares the figures of the E-Bus usage among residents, and how much revenue it has brought in.

Bernard Wagner, Mayor of Belize City: “They have been performing well. I could share the figures with the buses. I got an update yesterday up to  Sunday. Ridership of the E-Bus  has reached  231,000 ridership since July of 2024.  And in terms of revenue,  it’s  over  half a million  from the e-buses  alone  within the scope  of 50 months. So, we are looking at  an average, the buses have been  grossing about 35,000 to 36,000 monthly,  expenditure is pretty low because we don’t burn gas.  We have found out that the cost is one third of what diesel  buses  would have cost you so we are doing pretty good. That come five, ten, fifteen years down the road, you will remember what Mayor Wagner said, that the E-buses will be one of the major  revenue earners  of the city.”

Belize City Council’s e-buses hit the roads of Belize City after the council embarked on the E-Mobility pilot project back in 2018. The E-Buses are considered a significant step towards urban mobility for the residence of Belize.
