Belize City Teen Charged With Maiming 13-Year-Old Neighbor

A southside Belize City man is out on bail after being charged with throwing a rock at his 13-year-old neighbor, causing a serious eye injury. Nineteen-year-old Maurice Alvarez was charged with maim and throwing a missile. He appeared in court unrepresented yesterday evening and pleaded not guilty to both charges. Allegations are that on Thursday, August 14, 2025, Alvarez intentionally and unlawfully maimed the minor. He also allegedly threw stones at the girl. Police reports state the minor was walking home when Alvarez, her neighbor, threw a rock at her, hitting her in the left eye. The injury required her to be admitted to the hospital and she may need surgery to repair the damage. Alvarez was granted bail of $2,400 with two sureties of $1,750. He must not contact the victim or her family, must stay 100 feet away from them, and must report to the Mahogany Street Police Sub-Station every Friday. Alvarez’s next court date is set for October 20, 2025.
