Belize Coast Guard Offers Free Back-to-School Haircuts in Southern Belize

As families across Belize prepare for the start of a new school year, the Belize Coast Guard is lending a helping hand through a Back-to-School Haircut Drive aimed at supporting children and easing the financial burden on parents in southern Belize. The community outreach initiative, led by Senior Chief Coast Guard Officer Galvez and members of the Belize Coast Guard, brings together volunteer barbers, community partners and supporters to provide free haircuts for school-aged children. The effort is intended to ensure students return to the classroom looking their best and feeling confident as they begin the new academic year. Senior Chief Petty Officer, Joycelyn Galvez, shared how the initiative came about. 

Organizers say the initiative strengthens the relationship between the Coast Guard and the communities it serves by promoting positive interaction with young people. Galvez also spoke about a swimming initiative conducted by the Coast Guard last week. 

The Back-to-School Hair Drive began with activities in Dangriga and Barranco. Following today’s stop in Hopkins, the Coast Guard will take the initiative to Punta Gorda on Wednesday, Independence on Thursday and Monkey River on Friday.
