Belize Coast Guard Officer Injured in Southern Highway Crash

A Belize Coast Guard officer was injured this morning in a road traffic accident near the Big Falls Bridge in southern Belize. The incident occurred at approximately 9:30 a.m. when forty-one-year-old Sheridan Marie Sambula was driving a Nissan Rogue toward Punta Gorda. Initial reports indicate that Sambula lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a curve, causing it to collide with a concrete culvert. The impact caused extensive damage to the left front side of the SUV. Sambula sustained a cut injury to the head and was initially taken to the Punta Gorda Community Hospital before being transferred to the Southern Regional Hospital in Dangriga for further medical treatment. The circumstances surrounding the accident remain under investigation
