Belize Congratulates Nasry Asfura on Election as President of Honduras

The Government of Belize, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, has extended congratulations to Nasry Asfura following his election as President of Honduras.  In a brief public statement, Belize noted that it looks forward to strengthening neighborly ties with Honduras for the benefit of both countries and the wider region. Asfura, a former mayor of Tegucigalpa and a prominent figure in Honduran politics, was declared president-elect following Honduras’ recent general elections, which were closely watched across the region due to their implications for governance, economic stability, and regional cooperation.  Belize and Honduras share diplomatic relations rooted in trade, regional security cooperation, and participation in multilateral forums such as the Central American Integration System (SICA). While the two countries do not share a land border, both play roles in broader regional discussions on migration, climate resilience, and economic development.  The congratulatory message aligns with customary diplomatic practice and signals Belize’s intention to engage pragmatically with the incoming Honduran administration, as it has with successive governments in Tegucigalpa.  Officials have not yet outlined specific areas of cooperation under the new Honduran leadership, but past engagements between Belize and Honduras have included dialogue on regional stability, trade opportunities, and collaboration within hemispheric institutions.
