Belize Eyes Sports Tourism Growth After UN Congress in Mexico

Following the congress, Minister Mahler attended a networking cocktail reception at the Embassy of Belize in Mexico. The event brought together members of the media and travel-trade wholesalers to build relationships and promote Belize’s diverse tourism offerings to the Mexican market.  Following Belize’s participation in the Fourth UN Tourism World Sports Tourism Congress, Minister of Tourism, Youth, Sports and Diaspora Relations Anthony Mahler says the summit provided valuable insight into how Belize can further develop sports as a driver of tourism and economic activity.

Anthony Mahler, Minister of Tourism: “To be honest, it exceeded my expectations. All the discussions, all the camaraderie that we built with all the federations and associations having one alignment in terms of where we want to go with sports and where we want to go with sports tourism. I think we will see some rewards down the road. But I’ll be honest, compared to the summit that I, or the Congress that I just went to in Mexico, ours was much better.”

The Belizean delegation included Minister of State for Youth and Sports Devin Daly; Chief Executive Officer Nicole Usher; Vice Chair of the Belize Tourism Board, Mohit Budhrani; Director of Tourism Evan Tillett; and representatives from the Belize Tourism Board, National Sports Council and Football Federation of Belize.  The congress was held in Mexico City from September 7 to 9.
