Belize Fishermen Cooperative Association Holds 36th Annual General Meeting

Yesterday, fishers and cooperative leaders gathered in Belize City for the thirty-sixth Annual General Meeting of the Belize Fishermen Cooperative Association. The meeting was held at the Northern Fishermen Cooperative Society Limited Conference Room, bringing together members of the association, representatives of the Co-operative Department, government officials and regional fisherfolk partners. Chief Executive Officer in the Office of the Prime Minister, Narda Garcia, welcomed what she described as the reinvigoration of the Belize Fishermen Cooperative Association. The meeting was chaired by Nadine Nembhard, Administrative Officer of the Caribbean Network of Fisherfolk Organisations. Fisherwoman Kimmylee Audinett delivered the welcome remarks, while BFCA Executive Director Sydney Fuller gave members an update on the association’s work and its plans to pursue greater benefits and support for fishers.  Meanwhile, Registrar of Co-operatives Gareth Murillo said that while there is room for improvement, the association remains in good standing with the department. He also urged its leadership to explore additional sources of funding to support its programmes and activities.
