The Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and New Growth Industries officially opened the 2nd International Beekeeping Symposium & Expo this morning at the Muffles College Auditorium in Orange Walk Town. The event builds on the success of the inaugural symposium held in 2023, bringing together beekeepers, researchers, extension officers, and regional partners to strengthen Belize’s rapidly expanding apiculture sector. This year’s symposium focuses on innovative, climate-smart beekeeping practices that can help producers adapt to changing weather patterns and environmental pressures. Participants will explore new market opportunities, certification standards, data management tools, and the increasingly critical role of bees in seed production and pollination. Throughout the day, attendees will engage with experts in workshops and exhibitions designed to highlight both the economic potential of honey production and the broader environmental importance of maintaining healthy bee populations. The ministry says the Expo 2025 offers a valuable platform for knowledge-sharing, networking, and advancing Belize’s position as a regional leader in sustainable beekeeping. The event continues throughout the day at the Muffles Auditorium, where producers and the public are invited to learn, participate, and discover the opportunities emerging within the apiculture industry.
