Belize Launches First Public Financial Management Certification Program

Belize has launched its first-ever Public Financial Management (PFM) Certification Programme to improve transparency and efficiency in the public service. The initiative, a collaboration between the Government of Belize and the University of Belize, is funded by the Inter-American Development Bank.  The program, which officially began with an orientation session on Monday at the University of Belize’s Belmopan Campus, will train over 80 public sector officials. It will focus on key areas such as accounting, budgeting, procurement, and internal auditing to strengthen financial governance.  The certification programme, set to begin on September 1, will use a digital learning platform to provide flexible and accessible training, equipping public officers with the skills needed to manage public resources effectively and meet national and international standards.
