Belize Mourns the Passing of Attorney and Diplomat Georgia Brown Gillett

Belize has lost a distinguished legal professional and public servant with the passing of attorney Georgia Brown Gillett.  Gillett was widely respected for her work in immigration and international affairs law. She served as Principal of The Gillett Law Firm in Florida and was admitted to the Florida Bar in 1996. Gillett also served Belize on the diplomatic front. She spent two years as Counsellor at the Embassy of Belize in Washington, D.C., proudly representing the country in the United States.  Her service extended deeply into the Belizean diaspora. As a former President of the Belize Association of Florida and a member of its Board of Directors, she worked to strengthen connections among Belizeans living abroad and remained a prominent figure within the Belizean-American community.  Gillett was also a supporter and sponsor of the George Brown Foundation, which promotes educational opportunities for Belizean children involved in football.  Her academic career included a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, a Master of Science in Management and International Business, a law degree from the University of Miami School of Law and a Master of Arts in International Affairs.  She maintained affiliations with several professional organizations, including the American Immigration Lawyers Association, the Caribbean Bar Association, the American Bar Association and the Inter-American Bar Association.  Gillett was the daughter of the late Sir George Noel Brown, a former Chief Justice of Belize. She was also predeceased by her husband, George Gillett.  She is survived by her son, Joshua Gillett and her mother, Eleanor Williams Brown Pearson.
