Belize’s media and education communities are mourning the loss of a respected broadcaster, sports commentator, and longtime educator who passed away peacefully at approximately 4:30 p.m. today. The veteran media personality dedicated decades of service to broadcasting in Belize, becoming a familiar and trusted voice to radio listeners across the country. His career in radio began in 1977 at Radio Belize, which later became the Broadcasting Corporation of Belize. During his more than two decades there, he was involved in a wide range of programming, including regular radio broadcasts, outside event coverage, and live sports reporting. He was especially known for sports broadcasting in both English and Spanish, providing live coverage of football, cycling, and basketball events. His work also included translating news from English to Spanish and producing magazine-style radio programs that catered to Belize’s diverse audiences. In 1998, he transitioned to RSV Limited, the company behind Love FM and Estéreo Amor, where he continued his work as a sportscaster. Listeners would often hear him delivering the morning sports report on The Morning Show just before the news, followed by additional sports segments on Estéreo Amor between 7:00 and 7:30 a.m., and later contributions to the evening news broadcasts. Beyond radio, he also made contributions to print journalism, writing sports coverage for the Belize Times for more than a decade. His impact extended well beyond the newsroom and radio studio. For nearly four decades, from 1979 to 2017, he served as a dedicated teacher at Pallotti High School, where he specialized in Spanish while also teaching Journalism, Economics, History, and Bookkeeping. During his tenure, he helped mentor generations of students and served as moderator for the school’s newspaper Periscope and its yearbook Crossroads. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Spanish and Broadcast from the University of North Florida in 1991. Colleagues and former students remember him as a passionate communicator, mentor, and educator whose work helped shape Belize’s broadcasting landscape while inspiring countless young Belizeans in the classroom. As news of his passing spreads, tributes continue to pour in from across the media fraternity and education community. Family members, friends, former students, and colleagues have expressed their condolences, remembering him as a beloved teacher, colleague, and friend whose voice and influence will long be remembered.
