Belize Observes First National Forensic Science Week

Belize is marking its first National Forensic Science Week. The National Forensic Science Service launched the five-day observance on Tuesday following the country’s Independence celebrations.  The service says the week is a chance to show how forensic science helps investigators establish facts and supports the pursuit of justice. It also aims to recognise the people behind that work and encourage scientific thinking as Belize responds to security challenges. Activities continue through Friday.  The National Forensic Science Service (NFSS) is Belize’s public forensic agency. Its work spans three main areas: crime scene examination, laboratory analysis of evidence, and medical examinations, including post-mortems. It provides scientific findings that can help investigators and the courts establish what happened. The NFSS does much of its work behind the scenes. Its crime scene technicians document and collect evidence, laboratory staff examine materials submitted in investigations, and medical examiners help establish causes of death.
