Belize joined countries around the world today in observing World Day Against Child Labour, with the Labour Department carrying out a series of educational activities aimed at raising awareness about children’s rights and the importance of keeping children in school. As part of the activities, the Labour Department’s Child Labour Desk, led by Aida Reyes and her team, participated in the St. Francis Xavier Roman Catholic School Educational Expo in Corozal. The awareness campaign also extended to Sarteneja Village, where Labour Officer Sujelli Ku and Employment Officer Perla Coba conducted a Child Labour Education and Time Management Session at La Inmaculada Roman Catholic Primary School. The session focused on helping students understand the value of education, proper time management, and the importance of remaining in school. Labour officials note that while progress has been made, continued public awareness and community involvement are essential to preventing child labour and ensuring that every child is afforded the opportunity to reach his or her full potential. This year’s observance was held under the theme, “Red Card to Child Labour: Fair Play for Children, Decent Work for Adults”.
