Belize Opens 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games Basketball Tournament With Victory

Belize’s Under-20 Men’s National Basketball Team made a winning start at the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, defeating Nicaragua in its opening Group A match yesterday.  The Belize Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association described the victory as a strong team effort that provided early momentum. The roster includes Michael Caseras, Jason Orosco, Taevaughn Dawson and overseas-based players Doug Longford, Elijah Favela and Ian Parham Junior. Belize will face host country the Dominican Republic tomorrow before meeting Guatemala on Thursday.  The basketball competition forms part of the qualification pathway to the Pan American Games. Classification and medal matches are scheduled for August 1 and 3.
