Belize Prepares for CCAD Regional Presidency

Preparations continue for the country’s upcoming Pro Tempore Presidency of the Central American Commission on Environment and Development, known as CCAD.  The Ministry of Sustainable Development, Climate Change and Solid Waste Management convened a technical coordination meeting aimed at laying the groundwork for Belize’s assumption of the regional leadership position. The session brought together key regional partners and national focal points to review Belize’s proposed work programme and coordinate a smooth transition into the presidency.  The discussions centered on some of the most pressing environmental challenges facing the region, including climate change adaptation, biodiversity conservation, water resources management, the growing threat of sargassum, solid waste management, and other shared environmental concerns affecting Central America and the Dominican Republic.  Officials say the meeting provided an opportunity for participating countries and agencies to align priorities and identify areas for enhanced collaboration during Belize’s tenure at the helm of the regional body.  Belize’s upcoming presidency is expected to place particular emphasis on strengthening regional cooperation and advancing practical solutions to environmental challenges that continue to impact communities, economies, and ecosystems throughout the region.  The CCAD serves as the environmental arm of the Central American Integration System, or SICA, and plays a key role in coordinating environmental policies and initiatives across member states.
