Belize Promotes Tourism at Mundo Maya Fair in Mexico

Belize had representation at one of the region’s premier tourism events earlier this month.  The country’s tourism sector participated in the Mundo Maya Organization’s K’íiwik Tourism Fair held in Merida, Yucatan, Mexico, from June 2 through to 5.  The event, whose name “K’íiwik” means “market” in Yucatec Maya, brought together tourism officials, industry stakeholders, international wholesalers, travel buyers, and influencers from across the Mundo Maya region to promote tourism opportunities and strengthen regional cooperation.  Belize’s delegation was led by Chief Tourism Officer Josue Carballo and included representatives from the Belize Tourism Board’s marketing team, as well as a number of tourism stakeholders who participated through the Belize Tourism Industry Association. The Belizean contingent took part in regional planning discussions, destination marketing activities, and business-to-business meetings aimed at expanding the country’s reach in international tourism markets.  Officials emphasized that Maya culture remains vibrant throughout Belize and is reflected in many of the country’s attractions, traditions, services, and community-based tourism offerings.  The participation also provided an opportunity for Belizean tourism operators to forge new partnerships with international travel wholesalers and influencers.
