Belize saw a boost in overnight tourism for the month of July 2025 compared to the same period last year. Director of Tourism, Evan Tillett, confirmed the positive trend, pointing to the growing number of daily international flights into the country as a likely contributor. Tillett explained that this is why the Ministry of Tourism is actively pushing for increased flight frequency to Belize, in an effort to boost overall seat capacity and meet the rising demand. While the uptick is encouraging, he added that the Belize Tourism Board is still working to tap into other lucrative markets.

Evan Tillett, Director of Tourism: “If you notice that over the past couple of years we’ve been heavily focused on growing the air route into Belize. I think that is a strategy that the Ministry of Tourism, the Minister of Tourism and the BTB had taken from the time we got into government to really focus on developing our air routes because if you have more seat capacity into your country you will be able to grow tourism more sustainably. Interestingly when you look at the numbers for July, the numbers for July are up this July on record is the best July ever in overnight tourism in Belize. I believe that last year we were at about 43,000, this year we’re about 47,000 in terms of overnight visitors coming into the destination for the month. We’re heavily dependent on the US market but diversification is important for each destination, you can’t have all your eggs in one basket and so we’re looking to diversify from Europe, we’re looking at LATAM and Mexico so we continue the discussions in terms of air connectivity on those fronts, Europe and Mexico and Latin and South America.”
Belize now offers flights to 23 direct international destinations.
