Belize Retains Regional Tourism Leadership as Efren Pérez Secures New FEDECATUR Term

The FEDECATUR Board of Directors has confirmed Efren Pérez for another term as President of the regional tourism federation, extending Belize’s influence at the forefront of Central American tourism leadership. Pérez, who leads the Belize Tourism Industry Association (BTIA), first stepped into the regional spotlight in 2025 when Belize assumed the Pro Tempore Presidency of FEDECATUR, a rotating leadership position that placed the country at the center of regional tourism dialogue. His re-election signals that member nations are confident in both his leadership and the direction he has set for the federation. In remarks following the vote, Pérez thanked his regional counterparts for their continued trust, saying the renewed mandate is a reflection of the shared commitment among member chambers, tourism leaders, and regional partners to advance a common tourism agenda for the region. The announcement came on the heels of the III Ibero-American Tourism Forum, held in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, where public and private sector leaders gathered to discuss cooperation strategies, regional alliances, and opportunities to grow the tourism industry across Central America and the Dominican Republic. Speaking with Love News, Pérez outlined his priorities for the term ahead, saying FEDECATUR will keep its focus on strengthening public-private partnerships, improving regional air and ground connectivity, making it easier for visitors to move across borders, and positioning Central America as a competitive multi-destination tourism market on the world stage.
