Belize’s 2026 sugar crop season is set to come to an end this Sunday

Belize’s 2026 sugar cane crop season will officially come to an end this Sunday, June 21, following a unanimous decision by industry stakeholders after a joint review of the season’s remaining operations. According to a release issued today by Belize Sugar Industries Limited, representatives from the Sugar Cane Production Committee, BSI, and the country’s four cane farmers associations agreed to close the crop at six o’clock Sunday evening after assessing the amount of cane still available for delivery, current factory intake levels, and weather conditions expected over the coming days. The release notes that farmers and harvesters are being encouraged to immediately plan their final harvesting activities to ensure that all cut cane reaches the mill before the official cutoff. Meanwhile, the Sugar Cane Production Committee is coordinating final delivery schedules in an effort to maximize efficiency and minimize delays during the closing days of the season. BSI has also confirmed that factory intake gates will cease accepting cane promptly at six p.m. on Sunday.  Industry partners extended their appreciation to farmers, harvesters, transport operators, and factory personnel for their efforts throughout the crop season. While today’s announcement confirms the official closing date, questions remain regarding the overall performance of the 2026 crop, including production figures, sugar yields, and the challenges encountered during the season.  Love News will be following this developing story in greater detail and will have comprehensive coverage, including reactions from industry stakeholders and a review of the season’s performance, in tomorrow’s newscast.
