Belize Secures $20M in Green Climate Fund Projects to Boost Climate Resilience

Belize attended a bilateral meeting to discuss the approval of two new projects outlined during the 43rd Board Meeting of the Green Climate Fund which took place in Seoul, Republic of Korea yesterday.

The two projects titled: “Scaling up of Caribbean Hydrometeorological and Multi-Hazard Early Warning Services in Belize and Trinidad and Tobago and “Strengthen the Belize National Protected Area System to provide Resilience and Reduce Vulnerability of the Community against Climate Change”, will both receive separate grants amounting to twenty-million, six hundred and twenty-four thousand, one hundred and ninety-seven dollars. 

Ministers Michel Chebat, Louis Zabaneh and Osmond Martinez expressed their gratitude to the GCF for approving two new projects for Belize. During the meeting, other national projects were also discussed for potential future funding including the Rural Resilient Belize project, E-Mobility and Bus Modernization Systems, and Municipal Climate Resilience Initiative. “The project approval by the Green Climate Fund is a testament to Belize’s continued leadership and commitment to building a climate-resilient future. Through strategic partnerships and targeted investments, we are strengthening our ability to anticipate, prepare for, and respond to the impacts of climate change, protecting lives, livelihoods, and our shared prosperity.”
