A Belizean delegation is in Taiwan as part of efforts to promote local products and create new opportunities for exporters. The delegation, led by Rygel Rowley, Export Business Advisor at ExportBelize, a unit of BELTRAIDE, is participating in the Taichung International Coffee, Tea and Bakery Show, an international trade exhibition connecting businesses with buyers and industry professionals from around the world. Representing Belize at the event is Cotton Tree Chocolate, which is showcasing its premium bean-to-bar chocolate made from locally grown Belizean cacao. Manager of the Belize Export Unit at BELTRAIDE, Diana Hernandez, spoke about the importance of Belize’s participation in the trade mission.
Diana Hernandez, Manager of Export Belize Unit, BELTRAIDE: “One of the main reasons for us participating in this event is to showcase of course our Belizean products but we also want to highlight the opportunities that comes with it for engaging with the B2Bs and with potential buyers, distributors, importers, other industry stakeholders. It is intended to create some expansion of interest. Like I mentioned, it’s an opportunity for us to introduce some of the new products that we have available outside of the traditional export products that we have. And of course it’s also to generate some export leads for our export products. Over the years we’ve been participating in quite a number of trade shows in Taiwan and we have seen an interest whereby there’s been interest on our Belizean cacao and while we have exported we’ve seen continuous demand for the cacao products and what that has done was it was an opportunity for us to also look at the promotion of value added products such as the chocolate, the teas and other bakery products. So while the interest was there we looked at the opportunity to showcase some of the other products with high potentials. It is an opportunity that was extended to us to Taichua. They are one of the main organizers of these trade events and they have continuously given us the opportunity for us to invite Belizean companies to participate in these events and we’ve been able to successfully participate quite a number of times. In some cases we have had some solid contracts resulting from these trade shows and trade missions in Taiwan. The opportunity also exists for packaging material. We’ve seen an increased interest in some of our participants being able to establish some sort of business relationship with our Taiwanese counterparts, you know, looking at packaging and trying to see how they can also improve theirs.”
The initiative is being supported by TAITRA Global, the Embassy of Belize in Taiwan, and Taiwan in Belize, as Belize continues to strengthen its commercial relationship with Taiwan.
