Belize U-15 Boys Win First Match in Concacaf Tournament

Belize’s Under-15 Boys football team has secured their first win in the Concacaf U-15 championships being held in Aruba. The team played a high-stakes game in group D today Curacao won 2-1. The team needed the victory to remain in the competition following their 2-nil loss to Jamaica yesterday. Coach Dale Pelayo says that the boys have proven they can compete in high level football against countries with established youth programs.

Dale Pelayo, Head Coach: “When you look at the level that these boys are playing for the first time, I’m saying internationally, experience that it takes, the nervousness will step in early into the game. And so as the game prolonged, we can see the team become settled. They started to play our style of game. We had our opportunities in the game. We never made use of it, Jamaica did and so they end up winning the game two to nothing. So we believe that our boys can compete at this level. The more games they play at this international level it will just get them better and better. And so this is the second game going into this tournament, second game for many of them playing internationally. And so we expect, yes, we will want to see that we expect a lot from them but that will come gradually. The more experience these boys play, the more games they play, the more experience they will gain, and they can only get better. In today’s game we expect to go there and play our style of football and expect to come out with a victory.”

We’ll be following up on their performance in the competition.
