The Belize Under-20 Male Basketball Team is putting in the final hours of preparation before departing the country on Thursday for Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. The team will compete at the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games. The young athletes have spent more than three years building chemistry, with many of the players already familiar with each other’s strengths, weaknesses, and style of play. Today, Love News joined the team alongside Coach Tar during training at the Belize Civic Center to see how preparations are progressing ahead of this major regional competition.
The team features several talented young athletes who have been making their mark on the local basketball scene, including Michael Caseras, Jason Orosco, and Taevaughn Dawson. The squad also includes players who have earned opportunities to compete abroad at the Division One and Division Three levels, including Doug Longford and Elijah Favela. The Central American and Caribbean Games will serve as a qualification event toward the Pan American Games, adding even more importance to the team’s performance.
