Belize’s Under-23 Women’s Volleyball team is going for the gold in the Female Central American Championships after a decisive victory against Honduras last night. The teams played at the Belize Civic Center, where Belize won three straight sets 25-16, 25-20, and 25-18. President of the Belize Volleyball Association Allan Sharp told Love News that Honduras was formidable and played with heart, but Team Belize outplayed them with talent and technique.

Allan Sharp, President, Belize Volleyball Association: “Obviously, you know playing, this was a good opportunity, at least a test of what we could do. And our girls remained very calm. There was never a time of panic led by Captain Garrett, Garrett Bruce and Kaia kept the team very calm, controlled. The coaches did an excellent job in making sure the team remained focused. I think sometimes when you have a big lead you tend to lose focus a little bit. But right on cue, they came back, played very well. Kaia was doing the Kaia thing. She’s probably the hardest hitter in the tournament, the highest jumper in the tournament. Zayana our setter did well. She did great serving. Herdy Castillo had a great night blocking and serving. She made a lot of points serving. Of course, Garrett did well playing her position, libero position. So, Nisaane with her blocking, Blessed with her blocking. I mean our blocking is fantastic. You were tall it’s really hard for… we’re tall and we jump high and good technique that the coaches have taught. So, the girls are there to create a havoc on the next side. Our defense this time around I must say is one of the best defensive female teams for Belize that has been around for a long time. Maybe only the 2018 team can rival this but this team is very good in defense, very good in passing, one of the best passing teams that we’ve had.”
Belize plays Guatemala tonight for the gold. The game is set to start at 7:30
