Belize Welcomes Grenada to World Meteorological Organization

Belize has congratulated Grenada on becoming a member of the World Meteorological Organization, describing the move as an important step towards stronger cooperation on weather, climate and water-related issues.  In a statement issued today, the Ministry of the Public Service, Disaster Risk Management and Enterprise, along with the National Meteorological Service of Belize, welcomed Grenada’s admission. Both countries also belong to CARICOM and the Caribbean Meteorological Organization.  Government says the Caribbean’s vulnerability to extreme weather and changing climate conditions makes cooperation essential. It points to sharing resources, exchanging knowledge and strengthening technical support as ways countries can better prepare for and respond to common threats.  The statement also notes that weather systems cross national borders, making regional partnerships important to protecting lives, livelihoods and property.  Belize says it looks forward to working with Grenada and other member countries to strengthen early warning systems and improve the region’s ability to withstand weather and climate hazards.
