Belizean 9/11 Victim Remembered 25 Years After Attacks

Today marks 25 years since the September 11 terrorist attacks claimed nearly 3,000 lives in the United States. Among those killed was 41-year-old Alva Cynthia Jeffries Sanchez, a Belizean woman known to have perished in the attacks.  Sanchez was working on the 96th floor of the World Trade Center’s North Tower when American Airlines Flight 11 struck the building. In the days that followed, her relatives searched hospitals and held on to hope that she had survived. She never returned home.  Her family remembers her as a vibrant woman who loved life and her job, and whose warmth left a lasting impression on those around her. Her name is now permanently inscribed at the National September 11 Memorial in New York.  History now documents a tattered Belizean flag recovered from the rubble of the World Trade Center was later brought home to Belize.
