Belizean-born rapper and former Opposition Leader Moses “Shyne” Barrow is set to make a major return to the international stage this year, headlining a special anniversary performance in New York. According to an official release, the Grammy-winning artist will perform at the historic Kings Theatre in Brooklyn on Saturday, May 2, at 9:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, commemorating the 25th anniversary of his classic debut album Shyne. The concert marks Shyne’s first headline performance in the United States since he transitioned into public service in Belize as a past Opposition and Area Representative for Mesopotamia. Born in Southside Belize City and raised in East Flatbush, Brooklyn, Shyne rose to prominence in the late 1990s after being discovered by producer DJ Clark Kent and later signing to Bad Boy Records. His self-titled debut album debuted at number two on the charts and featured hits including Bad Boyz, Bonnie & Shyne, and That’s Gangsta. He later released Godfather Buried Alive in 2004. Organizers say the Brooklyn show will feature special guest performers to be announced and will celebrate the evolution of the artist from hip-hop star to national political figure. The Kings Theatre, a restored 20th-century movie palace and one of Brooklyn’s premier performance venues, will host the milestone event, which promoters describe as both a homecoming and a legacy celebration for the Belizean entertainer-turned-statesman.
