A Belizean national living in the United States without legal status has admitted to assaulting a federal immigration officer during an attempted arrest in Texas. U.S. Attorney Nicholas J. Ganjei confirmed that 29-year-old Sindi Vanessa Moreno-Flores, who had been residing in Conroe, Texas, pleaded guilty following an incident that occurred on September 23, 2025, during a targeted enforcement operation in Houston. According to court documents, federal authorities approached Moreno-Flores as she entered her vehicle. When officers attempted to detain her, she pulled away and scratched an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent on the upper left arm and hands. nvestigators say she also swung her arm while partially handcuffed in an attempt to strike the officer before fleeing into a nearby group of bystanders. Law enforcement personnel eventually restrained and arrested her. Moreno-Flores remains in custody pending sentencing before U.S. District Judge George Hanks. She faces a maximum penalty of up to eight years in federal prison and a possible fine of up to two hundred and fifty thousand U.S. dollars. The investigation was conducted by ICE Homeland Security Investigations, and the case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Justin R. Martin. U.S. authorities indicated the matter forms part of a broader nationwide enforcement initiative targeting illegal immigration and related offenses. No sentencing date has yet been announced.
