It’s that time of the year again, Halloween is upon us, with many Belizeans going the full nine yards, dressing the part as goblins, ghosts, and other Halloween-themed attire. We join Love News’ Rafael Roberts for that story.
Rafael Roberts, LOVE Reporter: “Halloween is an annual celebration on October 31st with origins in ancient Celtic harvest festivals like Samhain and the Christian observance of All Hallows Eve. Today, it is a secular holiday celebrated with trick-or-treating, costumes, parties, and carving jack-o’-lanterns. Historically, the celebration marks the night before All Saints Day and it’s a time when the veil between the living and spirit worlds was believed to be thin, leading to traditions of warding off spirits with masks and bonfires. Here in Belize City, the Lizama family on number one second street in the Kings Park area has spared no expense dedicating a spooky wonderland for the children and the young at heart.
Stanley Lizama, Spooky Wonderland Homeowner: “My name is Stanley Lizama.”

Stanley Lizama, Spooky Wonderland Homeowner : “Everybody knows me as a mortician. So this is my time, I do everything for the kids.”
Rafael Roberts, LOVE Reporter: “So you’re making sure that you have a playground set for the kids and so that they could, you know, have this grand time?
Stanley Lizama, Spooky Wonderland Homeowner : “Yes sir, I do this every year for the kids to make them be happy because these days you have to show love to the kids and this is how I show my love to the kids.”
