A Bermudian Landing resident remains hospitalized after he was shot while driving home on Saturday night. Police say 29-year-old labourer Kenton Young was travelling alone in his blue Ford Escape along the Mussel Creek Bridge route from Burrell Boom to Bermudian Landing when he came under attack. According to ASP Stacy Smith the incident occurred just after ten o’clock that night.
Stacy Smith, Assistant Superintendent of Police: “Police are investigating a shooting incident that resulted in the injury of Kenton Young, a 29-year-old Belizean laborer of Bermudan Landing Village in the Belize district. The investigation commenced on Saturday, 18 July at around 10:25 p.m. when officers were alerted that there was a shooting in the vicinity of Mosul Creek Bridge within that village. Upon officers arrival they observed a SUV and onboard that SUV was an injured Mr. Young. Mr. Young reported that he was traveling on board his vehicle when upon reaching that area he was accosted by a male person who was driving a motorcycle and that male person fired several shots which resulted in the injury of Mr. Young. Mr. Young is currently listed in a critical but stable condition. We have, the motive is an ongoing dispute between persons between Bermudan Landing Village and Lemonal Village. Two persons were detained and another is being sought.”
Police processed the scene and recovered twelve expended nine-millimetre shells. Investigators are seeking one person in connection with the shooting; however, that individual’s name is being withheld at this time. Police believe the incident may be connected to an ongoing feud involving groups from Lemonal and Double Head Cabbage.
