THE past season has been a very good one for G C Foster College of Physical Education and Sports, as the institution recorded one of its best overall performances in a long time, dominating their rivals by winning several collegiate team titles.
It all started in April when the St Catherine-based institution won both the male and female collegiate track and field titles. That winning trend continued in football, where they captured the Division One male and female titles. More recently, they added the senior netball title after getting past former collegiate queens The Mico University College. In addition, GC Foster finished runners-up in intermediate netball as well as in Division One male basketball.
The assistant athletic director at the institution, Canadian sprinter Brendon Rodney, is a three-time Olympic medallist in the 4x100 metres with gold in 2024, silver in 2020 and bronze in 2016. Rodney hailed the success of the various teams and showered praise on all those who made it possible.
“This year’s success is due to the continuous effort of our coaches to develop and nurture the talents that come through the doors of GC Foster College,” said Rodney.
“Being the premier sporting institution, we continue to set the standard for our coaches and athletes to be an integral part of the development of sports in Jamaica,” he added.
Rodney, who has been in the post for the past 18 months, said he is very proud of both the coaches and students.
“I am very proud of the coaches and athletes who overcame adversity this year with Hurricane Melissa as some of them lost their homes and had families displaced, but continued to be great coaches and amazing student-athletes,” Rodney concluded.
