Music artist Blu Lyon is back and making waves. Recently, the Trinidadian artist lit up popular DJ AGOline’s livestream, earning rave reactions from fans. He also headlined and promoted his own concert in NYC, which featured some of the community’s favorite Caribbean artists. The exclusive event gave fans a taste of what’s to come, with live performances that showcased Blu’s growth as both an artist and producer. Among the highlights was his performance of “Summa Haat,” a single that’s quickly gaining traction with DJs across the Caribbean and diaspora.
Talent runs deep in Blu’s family. Born Austin Lyons Jr., he is the son of legendary Calypsonian Super Blue and the brother of Soca powerhouse Fay-Ann Lyons. Raised in Brooklyn, Blu was influenced by both American and West Indian culture. When his mother faced challenges as a single parent, he spent much of his later childhood in Trinidad with his grandmother, where the island’s constant pulse of music fueled his passion to create.
That passion has grown into an undeniable skill. A versatile recording artist and producer, Blu recently produced Dexta Daps’ trailblazing single “Whine Pon Me,” which is making major noise in the Caribbean music scene.
Over the years, Blu Lyon has carved out a respected name in the industry. He has produced for dancehall giants including Vybz Kartel, Mad Cobra, Mr. Easy, Mega Banton, Dexta Daps, and Maestro Don. As a performer, he has opened for Ryan Leslie, Fetty Wap, Juelz Santana, Frisco Kid, Dexta Daps, and Funkmaster Flex.
His journey began in high school, where he fused hip hop with dancehall and honed his creative voice. By college, his talent had caught the attention of Sony Music and associates of Murder Inc. Records, leading to early studio sessions with Beatmania Studios and Yardstyle Entertainment. There, he recorded his debut reggae-dancehall single “Poor No More,” which went viral on YouTube and became a favorite among European audiences.
Since then, Blu has continued to expand his artistry, including acting in the Sons of Kingston web series as Smoke.
With a full project planned for release next year, Blu Lyon is using concerts, listening sessions, and his latest singles to build anticipation. As both an artist and producer, he continues to carry his family’s legacy while boldly carving out his own.
