A symbolic gesture was carried out today by the Special Envoy Rossana Briceno to assist in the awareness campaign on child abuse. Briceño, today, handed over a total of nine small and three large blue teddy bears to the National Commission for Families and Children (NCFC) as part of the ongoing Blue Teddy Bear Campaign. The initiative, which is being carried out in collaboration with UNICEF Belize and the Ministry of Human Development, Family Support and Gender Affairs, uses the blue teddy bear as a powerful symbol of comfort, protection, and hope for children who may be experiencing abuse or violence in silence. In a statement, Her Excellency emphasized that the campaign goes beyond symbolism, serving as a call to action for communities across Belize to break the silence surrounding child abuse and to create safe spaces where children feel protected and supported. The National Commission for Families and Children, in accepting the donation, expressed gratitude for the contribution, noting that the teddy bears play an important role in increasing visibility for the campaign. According to the Commission, the presence of the bears in public spaces and communities helps to spark conversations and reinforce the message of protection, care, and advocacy for every child.
