Day two of the BNTU convention continued with presentations throughout today. The major highlight was the formal adoption of resolutions, led by President Nadia Caliz and partner organizations. Delegates gathered inside the Civic Center to review and discuss a series of proposals aimed at addressing critical issues affecting teachers and the wider education system. The resolutions focused on improving working conditions, increasing access to resources, and strengthening policy support for educators nationwide. The day is dedicated to working through resolutions, reviewing reports and tackling key issues affecting educators nationwide. Love News spoke with Nadia Caliz who told us about her second term in leadership.

Nadia Caliz, National President, BNTU: “It feels great, it feels great, simply because I see this as members believing in my leadership and the things that I’m doing. So I am truly grateful for them, you know, giving me another opportunity to once again serve them. I knew from the 27th of February, one month before, I heard that there were people who were considering. As a matter of fact I wasn’t really thinking about running but members kept coming and asking me to run. And then there was a person who dared me and I took it from there.”
The second day of the Belize National Teachers’ Union’s 56th Annual National Convention moved beyond the opening ceremonies into a full agenda of union proceedings and a highly anticipated market that put a spotlight on the business ventures of Belizean teachers.

Natalie D Rhaburn, Owner, Nat’s Delights: “We have milk cakes, we have nachos, beef chicken, we have cupcakes, we have garnaches. I just love cooking. Yeah, love cooking.”

Walter Lizarraga, Belize Classroom Resources: “Well, I’m glad to be here at the BNTU Convention. My name is Walter Lizarraga. I have been a teacher for the past 18 years. I’m also a businessman, And today I brought Belize Classroom Resources. It’s a store that I have in Corozal Town and we have come from way there to bring teacher tokens to you guys. We normally sell teacher decorations, but today we’re bringing tokens because we know Teacher’s Day is coming up soon. Why not come here today? This is the venue where all the teachers are. So and as we appreciate teachers, we said, you know what? We need to bring some tokens for them today.”
