As the national track and field youth team prepares to fly the red, white, and black in Grenada, the National Association of Athletics Administrations of T&T (NAAATT) has confirmed a significant change to the roster. Standout sprinter Giovanni Bobb-Semple has officially withdrawn from the 2026 Carifta Games.
The decision, announced via an official statement from the NAAATT, comes following intensive consultations between the team doctor, Bobb-Semple’s personal physiotherapist, and his parents. Bobb-Semple, who was slated to compete in the Under-20 boys’ 100 metres and 4x100m relay, made the difficult choice to prioritise his long-term health and recovery.
”While this decision was not taken lightly, priority remains on the athlete’s recovery and long-term development,” the NAAATT stated, affirming their full support for the young sprinter during his rehabilitation period.
Despite the loss of Bobb-Semple, T&T will still boast its second-largest contingent in the history of the Games. The now 91-member delegation, consisting of 73 athletes and 18 officials, is scheduled to depart for St George’s on Thursday.
The Games will be held at the Kirani James Athletics Stadium over the Easter weekend, from Friday to Monday. T&T is looking to build on the momentum of the 52nd edition held last year on home soil, where the host country secured an impressive haul of 25 medals (9 gold, 6 silver, and 10 bronze).
