Bowen and Bowen Worker Shot While Walking to Work in Belize City

Police are investigating an early morning shooting that left Malik Sutherland injured while on his way to work.  Information reaching Love News is that the incident occurred shortly after six o’clock this morning when two Bowen and Bowen workers were reportedly walking to work in Belize City.  Reports indicate that Sutherland sustained a gunshot wound to the foot along with a graze wound to the head during the attack. Today, ASP Stacy Smith confirmed that investigations into the shooting remain ongoing as authorities work to establish a motive and identify those responsible.

Stacy Smith, Assistant Superintendent of Police: “Police have detained one male person and are seeking two others as a part of an ongoing investigation into a shooting incident which resulted in the injury of 25 year old Malique Sutherland of Bermudian Landing Village. The investigation commenced at around 6:25am on 25th May 2026 when reports were received of shots fired on Cleghorn Street Belize City. What we have gathered so far in the course of this ongoing investigation is that Mr. Sutherland was on his way to his place of employment when he was accosted by an individual who was onboard and SUV and that individual fired several shots resulting in the injury of Mr.Sutherland. As stated, one person has been detained and two others are being sought. A motive is being explored however that will be disclosed when it becomes necessary to do so.”

Information reaching our newsroom also suggests that Sutherland may have been the target of another shooting incident that reportedly occurred yesterday in Bermudian Landing.
